It seems like yesterday that you came up to me and asked me to take your picture and I asked you to move right along. It seems like yesterday that I proposed to you on email and you took 3 long days to reply. It seems like yesterday that we argued about why you don't eat rice, wait a minute, that
was yesterday. How did 10 years go by and how we have grown.
1998 I enter your 600 sqft studio apartment in Seattle with 2 huge overstuffed suitcases and ask where the other rooms are? The suitcases would become our dinner/center table. I'm perplexed on how you can't afford a TV but can afford a membership at the
WAC.
1999 You shout at me for not understanding a T table, debit and credit how the heck can it be so difficult, you ask. You confuse me so much right before my exam that I flunk and have to repeat the class.
2000 I use the guilt of failing my class on you so much that you pretty much do all my homework and I graduate with an MBA. We go to San Diego to celebrate the Millennium only to be rained upon (the first time in ages that it rained in San Diego and we were there). We go sailing on the one sunny day and you get the Hobie 16 stuck in mud trying to impress me with a close tack.
2001 To show me that finance is a piece of cake you graduate with your CFA to add to your MBA. You spend many nights either studying or working while I discover another acronym - HBO.
2002 We start enjoying the outdoors. We go sailing on Lake WA. Once you ask me to get on the dock and pull the boat in, the wind yanks the boat left I try to pull right and fall into the lake. Not knowing how to swim and without a life jacket I yell, you laugh and pull me out. You tell me the water was only 5'5" deep, I tell you I'm 5'2" and I could have drowned. I make you donate the boat to charity. You however return with another boat named Hot Diggity and fail to mention it has a hole in it.
2003 We travel. We go to Maui, Italy, England, Germany and Austria. After we get home we decide to start a family. I loose my dear grandfather and little do I know the next year would be even worse.
2004 My darkest year, I hold my father's hand as he passes away. I watch you come into the hospital room hold my father's feet and cry. I cannot tell day from night. I cry in my car while driving to and from work listening to Eddie Vader singing
Where oh where is my baby gone on repeat again and again and again, the starting words of every phonecall my dad made to me.
2005 I finally get pregnant. I eat 34586 buckets of Hagen Daaz ice cream. You lay on my belly using it as a pillow and get the fierce kicks of baby#1. You hope baby arrives this year so we get a tax credit, it doesn't. You get a Mercedes instead.
2006 Tara enters our lives. We are over the moon.
2007 You loose a job you get a job. We are insecure, uncetrain and have one to many ear infections to deal with. Yet, all I crave for is 34586 buckets of ice-cream and quickly get pregnant with baby#2. Nisha enters our lives, we are complete.
2008 We sell our house, our belongings, our
everything, in Seattle and get ready to return to India. I return for YOU, and you know and I know that I'm going to use it to my utmost benefit. We look back on the 10 years and wonder how we made it. I wonder why it is you still don't like rice.
Happy Anniversary and Happy Birthday S.
